Are Night Sweats in Men a Symptom of Andropause?

Andropause Treatment West Palm Beach FLNight sweats can be just one of the symptoms that men experience from andropause.

When you think of night sweats, you think of women, as this is one of the classic symptoms of menopause.

But did you know that men experience a similar condition known as “andropause?” As in women, night sweats are just one of the symptoms associated with andropause.

And, like women, the condition is related to an age-related drop in hormones – but in this case, it is testosterone that is to blame. As far as night sweats go, though it is more common in women than men, when it does occur in men, andropause and hormones can be to blame.

Unlike occasional bouts of nighttime perspiration, which can arise when the bed or the bedroom are too warm or when you’re ill and have a fever, night sweats are defined as repeated episodes of extreme sweating.

Even when the room they are sleeping in is cool, someone with night sweats will awaken to find themselves, their pajamas, and even their bedding drenched in perspiration. When heavy sweating becomes chronic, it’s called hyperhidrosis.

When it occurs at night, it’s known as nocturnal hyperhidrosis. And because our bodies actually cool down a degree or two during sleep, nocturnal hyperhidrosis can be an indicator of an underlying problem or condition.

One possible cause of night sweats in men is low testosterone, which can be identified via a simple blood test. It’s a hormonal condition that becomes more common as men age. Low testosterone has been linked to being overweight and to Type 2 diabetes.

If you are a man between the ages of 40 and 65 and are experiencing night sweats, it could be a sign of low testosterone, a condition also known as andropause or “male menopause.” Other signs of andropause include:

  • Low libido (sex drive) and erectile dysfunction
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Weight gain, particularly belly fat
  • Inability to build lean muscle, even while exercising
  • Mood swings
  • Irritability, depression, anxiety
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Memory loss and cognitive difficulties

If you suspect you may have low testosterone, the good news is that testosterone replacement therapy is an effective andropause treatment.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy and Andropause

Here are some of the many benefits that hundreds of patients are experiencing from testosterone replacement to treat andropause symptoms at our West Palm Beach, Florida-based hormone clinics right now.

A 2009 study concluded that “Restoring testosterone levels to within the normal range by using testosterone replacement therapy can improve many of the effects of [low testosterone].

Most importantly, these include beneficial effects on mood, energy levels, and patients’ sense of well-being, sexual function, lean body mass, muscle strength, bone mineral density (BMD), cognition, and some benefits on cardiovascular risk factors.”

In addition, testosterone replacement therapy has been shown to provide:

  • Improved skin and hair health
  • Increased strength and vitality
  • Weight loss
  • Improved heart health
  • Stronger bones
  • Improved sleep
