Romance after menopause can be challenging, but here are some things to keep in mind

Intimacy is an integral part of our lives. However, the loss of estrogen and testosterone after menopause can lead to physical and sexual changes in a woman. Women can suffer from this negatively, especially regarding their sexual satisfaction. Is it time for you to look for a hormone clinic to help you treat menopause?

But it does not have to be that way. Through effective menopause treatment, most of the incapacitating symptoms and signs of menopause can be reduced or eliminated.

My old self is gone – What happened to me during menopause?

How Does Menopause Affect Romance?

As women age, hormone levels such as estrogen and testosterone decline. This leads to various physical changes in a woman’s body. Symptoms of menopause include:

  • Hot flashes
  • Women Private Part dryness
  • Diminished romance
  • Hair loss
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Brain fog

During menopause and postmenopause, women may notice being less easily aroused and less sensitive to stimulation, such as touching and stroking. That can lead to less interest in romance.

Menopausal women also experience private property dryness. This is usually caused by low levels of estrogen that cause a decline in blood supply to the vagina. Private property dryness causes uncomfortable intercourse, and this also affects romance.

Some women also have decreased libido. Usually, this is linked to performance-related anxiety and private property dryness.

Romance need not stop after menopause. It can be fun and play a role in relationships beyond procreation.

Is less intercourse natural?

It’s true that many couples have romance in their older years, but there is no “normal” frequency for having romance at any age. There is no need to worry about romance and how frequently you do it if you have a loving and intimate relationship.

It is often not as pleasurable for later-age couples as it used to be. There are a lot of physical changes that occur at a later age, such as private property dryness and erectile dysfunction. These can also be causes of your infrequent romance.

But that does not mean that you cannot be intimate with your partner.

How to maintain intimacy?

Throughout their senior years, many couples remain sexually active. Just be aware that what feels good can change. It’s common for women to stop being sexual when getting aroused or having an intimacy becomes hard, but mental and physical stimulation can help.

  • Intimacy is not just physical contact. Effective communication with your partner increases emotional closeness. Maintaining a healthy and intimate relationship requires open and honest discussions about feelings and emotions.
  • Consider experimenting with new positions to stimulate excitement and satisfaction for you and your partner. Spice up your usual sexual routines.
  • It’s great to switch things up for romance. Try going someplace new to both of you. It may be just a different room in the house or getting a hotel room. It doesn’t matter where you go as long as you and your partner are comfortable.
  • Lube is your friend. Menopause brings about private property dryness, which makes romance a bit uncomfortable. Lubricants of different flavors and sensations help reduce friction, so you and your partner will have a more enjoyable and pleasurable experience.

Do I still need to practice safe romance after menopause?

Menopause is not a protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Your vaginal tissue might be more susceptible to infection if you’re postmenopausal or not using at least a vaginal form of estrogen.

Before you have romance with your partner, it is best if your partner is tested for STIs first. To prevent transmission of STIs, you can also use a latex condom or dental dam.

Are there any benefits to Romance after menopause?

Although women’s bodies go through many hormonal changes during menopause, it should not stop them from having a wonderful romantic life. Having romance can reap a lot of health benefits, such as:

  • Stress relief – It is a natural stress reliever. Being close to your partner, touching, and hugging release feel-good hormones, which promote feelings of relaxation and contentment.
  • Healthy tissue – Women private property atrophy is as real as it can get. When women are sexually active in menopause and afterward, the blood flow necessary to keep the vaginal tissue healthy is maintained.
  • Having romance lowers cortisol levels and increases oxytocin levels. Intimacy also release prolactin. A drowsy state is induced due to these changes in hormones, which leads to a night of deeper and more restful sleep.
